If You See A Plastic Bottle On Your Tire, Pay Close Attention.

In the first part of our series, we revealed how a plastic bottle lodged between your car tire and frame can be a sneaky tactic used by thieves. In this part, we’ll dive deeper into how the trick unfolds and how you can avoid falling victim to it.

How Thieves Execute the Plan

The method is simple yet highly effective. A plastic bottle is strategically placed between your tire and the frame of your car, often on the front passenger side where it’s out of view. Once you start driving, the empty bottle will make a loud, crunching sound. Startled by the noise, most drivers will pull over immediately to investigate.

This moment of distraction is exactly what the thief is waiting for. While you’re checking the wheels, the thief can jump into your running car and drive off, or simply steal any valuables inside—like your phone, wallet, or other personal belongings.

Stay Alert

The key to avoiding this trap is being aware. Before getting into your vehicle, always check around the tires for anything unusual, especially if you notice an odd sound when you start to drive. Thieves often use this tactic in parking lots or other areas where it’s easy to slip away unnoticed.

If you do spot a bottle or something suspicious, stay calm and avoid getting out of the car right away. Instead, call 911 and let the authorities handle the situation. Share your location and describe your vehicle so they can respond quickly.
