Two Outback workers wish nobody saw what message they wrote on cops’ receipt

Police officers, emergency workers, and first responders risk their lives every day to keep our communities safe. They work tirelessly, often pulling long shifts regardless of the hour, all to protect the people they serve. Their dedication doesn’t go unnoticed, and once in a while, they receive a gesture of appreciation that reminds them why they do what they do.

This was precisely the case for four police officers in Louisiana after they finished a long and grueling shift. Wanting to unwind and grab a bite to eat, they headed to their local Outback Steakhouse in Slidell for dinner. They thought it would be a typical meal, but what they experienced that night left them speechless.

According to Fox8, the officers arrived at the Outback Steakhouse for a well-deserved dinner. Everything seemed like a normal evening. Their meals were served promptly, and nothing stood out—until it was time to pay the bill.

“They’re the sweetest guys,” said Zoë Rao, a waitress at the restaurant. “I enjoy waiting on them.” It was clear that these officers were familiar faces, and the staff appreciated their presence. This appreciation led to something special.

The restaurant manager, Arline Wood, who had been working at Outback for 18 years, recognized the officers as regulars. Together with Zoë, they devised a plan to give back to these officers who had done so much for their community.

When it was time for the officers to pay their $67 bill, they received a surprise that was more than just a free meal. The receipt showed that their meal was on the house, and along with the waived bill, there was a heartfelt note written on it. The message read, “Be safe!” at the top, and farther down it said, “Thank y’all for y’all’s service! Enjoy y’all’s meal on us!”

This simple gesture left the officers deeply touched. “They care about the community. They care about everybody. They’re just great guys,” Arline explained. “Our whole police force is great, and these guys at night, I went to Zoë and said, let’s take care of it.” To show their appreciation, the officers left a generous tip, expressing their gratitude for the unexpected kindness.

Later, the Slidell Police Department decided to share this act of generosity with the world. They posted a picture of the receipt on their official Facebook page to honor the two Outback employees who made the officers’ night. The post quickly went viral, with thousands of people touched by the story.

But Arline and Zoë never expected or wanted the attention that came with their kind gesture. They didn’t do it for recognition or praise; they just wanted to do something nice for people who serve their community. “I got a phone call early in the morning, and I was like, ‘What are you talking about?'” Arline recalled. “People were calling me, then we saw it on Facebook, and then it’s on this page and that one. We didn’t do it for the publicity, because Lord knows I don’t like all this publicity.”

Despite the overwhelming attention, there’s hope that something good might come from it. Arline and Zoë hope their simple act of kindness will inspire others to show appreciation to those who put their lives on the line every day. It doesn’t take much to show gratitude—a kind word, a thank-you note, or even buying a meal can make a huge difference to someone who spends their days protecting others.

Big kudos to Arline and Zoë for setting an example of how to thank our law enforcement officers and first responders, who willingly face danger so the rest of us don’t have to. Their actions remind us that appreciation matters, and it can come from even the smallest of gestures.

In a time when stories about police officers being denied service or facing disrespect often make the headlines, it’s important to highlight moments like this. Moments where people show genuine appreciation for those who keep our streets safe and respond to emergencies without hesitation. This kind of positive recognition serves as a reminder to officers and all first responders of why they do what they do.

To all the first responders out there—police officers, firefighters, paramedics—thank you for your service. Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and there are countless people who are incredibly grateful for all you do. The world could use more moments like this—acts of kindness that remind us of our shared humanity and inspire us to support one another.

If you’re inspired by this story, please share it on Facebook to encourage others to show appreciation for those who work hard every day to keep us safe. Whether it’s a thank-you, a smile, or buying someone a meal, we all have the power to make someone’s day just a little bit better. Let’s continue to spread positivity and show gratitude to the brave men and women who protect us.
